Toulou Broadhead Crossbow Accuracy

So you want to know how Toulou Broadheads fly out of a crossbow? Well, rather than us telling you, here is Mark Smith from Mark's Outdoors in Birmingham Alabama and Trinity Wild on Youtube with an independent crossbow accuracy test at 450 fps.

The question I get everyday is “What’s the best broadhead?” I don’t really think there is one answer to that. But the question I do have an answer to now is, “What do you shoot?” I’m going to shoot the Toulou right twist 100 grain single bevel broadhead. These things are sweet. My biggest question with any fixed blade broadhead is, do they fly like my field point? The answer to that is usually NO! Today we will be testing these new broadheads for durability as well as “ How do they fly?”

It flew well from a compound bow. The durability is good. Now for the real test! Let’s see how true they fly at 450 ft per second. One of the things that’s difficult about shooting a fixed blade broadhead out of a crossbow, or anything over 350 ft per second, is you’re going to have trouble. Now that’s not to say you can’t shoot a fixed blade broadhead. You’re going to have to try different ones because some are going to be accurate and others are not going to fly well. Once you get started shooting broadheads, let’s say you shoot three different broadheads and, on the fourth broadhead you try, you finally find one that shoots well. Well, now you’re $200 in on broadheads before you find one that works.

So, I’m very excited to see how these Toulou Broadheads perform from a crossbow. I’ve got the same accuracy test setup. We’re going to go from left to right: field point, broadhead, broadhead and see how they fly.

Field point: Landed just to the right of a small circle on the target at 32 yards. With this test, we’re shooting just over 30 yards with the crossbow. We were shooting just over 20 with the compound. I wanted to make it a little bit more random rather than just 20, 30, or 40 yards.

Toulou Broadhead #1: Landed inside on the bottom of the small circle on the target at 32 yards. To be clear again, these are the standard 3 bolts that come with the Raven crossbow. Were shooting about 32 at yards 450 ft per second.

Toulou Broadhead #2: Landed on the line in the bottom left of the small circle on the target at 32 yards. The shot hit in the same spot as a previous field point test shot from sighting the bow.

Well, with that amount of penetration, it’s going to suck getting those out of the target. In the video, you can see the results from left to right: Field Point, Toulou Broadhead, Toulou Broadhead. Each shot was at around 32 yards. Those are all dead deer. After this testing, I’m telling you, I’m going to have a quiver full of Toulou Broadheads this year. They flew great out of my compound bow and my crossbow and they were super durable. I haven’t tried to sharpen them yet but I’m sure they won’t be a problem. I’m impressed that, even out of a crossbow at 450 ft per second, you can see how well they flew!
