Choosing Toulou Broadhead Rotation

Arrow rotation is an often overlooked element of tuning your bow and choosing your broad heads, but it doesn't have to be complicated. Here are 5 simple steps to clock your arrow rotation so you can choose the Toulou Broadhead that works best with your bow set up!

One question we get a lot is, “How do I decide whether buy a left or a right rotating Toulou Broadhead?” Let’s talk about it!

A key feature of all single bevel broadheads is the rotation that’s created as it passes through an animal. The Toulou Broadhead takes this feature and puts it on steroids by creating rotation at the front of your arrow as soon as it leaves your string.

Now, to get the most accuracy out of your Toulou Broadheads, we recommend matching the rotation of the broad head with the offset of your fletchings. Most arrows from the factory are going to come fletched with a slight right offset. In that case, we’d recommend going with a right rotating head. But, if you really want to geek out about it, let’s talk about clocking a bare shaft arrow.

  1. Go ahead and get an old arrow and cut the fletchings off of it.

  2. Nock that arrow and make a sharpie mark right at 12:00 on top of the shaft of the arrow by the nock.

  3. Shoot it at about 5 Yards then go up and see whether your mark rotated to the right or to the left. That’s going to be the natural rotation of your arrow off your string.

  4. Re-fletch your arrows to match the natural rotation of your string.

  5. Get yourself a pack of Toulou Broadheads to match that rotation so your whole system works together.

  6. (Bonus Tip!) If your sharpie mark ends up pointing straight down, move into about 3 yards and shoot again. As you continue, move back a few steps with each shot, you should see your arrow progressively rotating in the direction it naturally rolls off of your string.

If you don’t have time to go through that whole process, don’t worry. As long as you match the rotation of your head with the fletchings, Toulou Broadheads offer exceptional accuracy even out to long ranges!
